About Me

Who is Amphelise de Wodeham?

Usually, on SCA blogs, this is where the person describes their persona in luscious detail. However, I'll be the first to admit that I am terrible at persona. Name-wise, Amphelise is a Kentish woman from the 1300s, and since I like making and wearing cotehardies that fits too, but otherwise I haven't got a pretty back-story. Maybe I'll get around to that one day!

As for who Amphelise de Wodeham is in the SCA...

Crest showing a blue base, a yellow half sun. two black swan heads and a green laurel wreath.
I began my SCA journey in 2009 in Aneala,

before relocating to Insulae Draconis in 2010.

I received my Award of Arms in 2011.

I am a member of the Order of Ffraid,

and the Order of Linquistringes,

and I am a 2x recipient of the Dragon's Tear.

I served as Insulae Draconis Chronicler for four years, finally handing over this year.

I am currently the Sheriff of Nottingham, aka the lead officer of the Hamlet of Okynfirth (broadly speaking, the East and Central Midlands of England, with some parts of the West Midlands).

I am known in the SCA for running events,

cooking feasts,

wrangling a geographically dispersed hamlet into some form of unity,

and being passionate about equality and diversity.

I love book heraldry but don't have enough time to pursue it,

I should do voice heraldry but never seem to get around to it,

I love enabling music at events but frequently shy away from performing,

I am a beginner at heavy fighting,

and I am protégé to Master Yannick of Normandy.

As well as my fealty to Master Yannick, I am a member of two households:

Linden Manor

and Brighthelm.

I always have more ideas than I have time, and I utterly refuse to ever serve as exchequer at any level because that would not end well for anyone.

Behind the Scenes...

In the mundane world, I am a qualified archaeologist who retrained as a primary school teacher then switched to education for post-16 young people with learning disabilities, autism, and other learning differences. I am myself autistic, and have ADHD, and spend a lot of my non-SCA time writing fantasy.
